LexisNexis is an American company that sells data analytics products and various databases that can be accessed through online portals. As of 2006, the company has the world’s largest electronic database for legal and public-records–related information. Advanced search software is used every day to keep databases searchable for anyone with a LexisNexis subscription. By implementing smart search solutions, the flagship product of LexisNexis works faster and better with less costs.
Accelerating innovation with search engineering
To stay ahead of the crowd, LexisNexis needed a new and innovative search implementation.
Patent search is a complicated domain, especially since LexisNexis used two patent search tools at the same time. This particular IT-structure takes too much time, effort and money to be future proof. To overcome this, a different search engine, Elasticsearch, was implemented and combined with the existing search tools. The maintenance costs are now reduced and the solution is more sustainable as LexisNexis now just has one cluster of search engines to manage.
In the projects with LexisNexis, Luminis was able to step in with the right expertise when needed most. By taking ownership of the problem, consulting with different colleagues and aiming high, we were able to solve complex search problems and drive technical solutions forward to create better results.
Expertise in the functionalities of Elasticsearch

Additional to implementing Elasticsearch, Luminis developed new features and updates to make the search engine work optimally. LexisNexis wanted to use highly specialized features of Elasticsearch, and benefited directly from Luminis’ expertise in this area. When combining the two patent search tools, Luminis was able to use the best of both tools and combined this in the new search functionality. As a result, the end-users of the LexisNexis service are now benefiting from a more advanced and innovative search tool.
